Learning pathway straight to fluent Dutch
Participating a conversation in a new language is in fact the ultimate challenge, because every layer comes to realization at the same time. Each language method should contain the building stones under the communication. Moreover, language learning needs training to develop new mental systems. Our approach to reach that in Dutch, is simple, just in three steps, reflected in the construction of every lesson:
- Getting insight by theory, written in English.
- Processing it in exercises, checking the answers in the back.
- Imprinting it by the audio files.
The end level is, according to the European CEFR classification system, B1, a sufficient base for further learning on your own.
Jump into Dutch offers you everything you always wanted to know about Dutch but never found anywhere.
The content
We concentrated on the most striking difficulties of spoken Dutch, namely word order, pronunciation and the communicational routines:
Word order: we developed 7 rules, simple enough to use them during speaking. They are the heart of the method.
Pronunciation: all exercises are recorded in such a way you can repeat every utterance. In chapter 2 you’ll find lots of exercises you need for the right pronunciation.
Intonation: the communicational meaning of an utterance is largely defined by the intonation, in Dutch. You will be trained in it, over and over again.
Communicational and cultural routines: in Conversational Dutch 2 you’ll find a large variety of possibilities.
Fun
Learning a language demands discipline, concentration and motivation. Every method ought to support the learner by being fun, interesting and stimulating. One way is matching the needs of the learner and answering their questions. Another is making the learning process as easy as possible. A third way is to show the way Dutch people are communicating. You will will find it all in the books.

I have learned so much about the Dutch language from Heleen Polter’s books and classes. Her book provides all the tools needed to learn Dutch, so that I could move quickly from practice exercises to using the language in my everyday life.
– Becket Flannery, artist, writer and teacher
The chapters demystify even the most difficult grammar, giving clear examples and explanations. Understanding these concepts has given my spoken and written Dutch much more confidence.
She teaches not only the basics, but also the spirit of the language, so that speaking Dutch becomes an enjoyable, even addictive activity.
